What is an Interstitial Ad?

in - ter - sti - tial ad
noun
Is an interactive, full-screen format ad that covers an application’s interface. This type of ad is differentiated from other ads, by its full coverage of the interface. Interstitial ads appear between content, are placed at transition points or breaks, and usually have a five or more second waiting delay before giving users the option of closing it. The click-through-rate (CTR) of interstitial displays is double that of native display ads, although their cost is also considerably higher. From a campaign performance point of view, interstitial display ads have proven to be effective.
